  • UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice Art, Design and Communication

    QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO START THE COURSE

     

     

    8 GCSEs taken.

    5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, ideally including English and Maths.

    GCSE or L2 art qualification or product design at grade 4 or above is essential.

    OR

    Merit or above in a level 2 art qualification such as Cambridge Technical level 2 art and design.

    COURSE OVERVIEW

    These qualifications are suitable for students who have an interest in creative arts or a related subject who wish to explore and extend this interest via an immersive learning experience.

    The full Extended Diploma course is equivalent to 3 A levels.

    LEARNING & SKILLS

    This course has a multi-disciplinary approach to visual language. The course will introduce you to working creatively in 2D, 3D and time-based media.

    During the first year, you will have the opportunity to be exploratory and experimental. Only by trying different ways of working will you know where all your strengths, skills and interests lie. You will use the creative process to solve different creative problems, and you will develop your ability to respond to set briefs and record your work professionally. At the end of the first and second year you will develop your own projects.

    You will develop your ability to work individually and as part of a group and to research, develop, generate ideas and produce outcomes.

    EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT

    EXAM BOARD: UAL

    The course is entirely coursework based. The two-year course consists of 6 units of art and design theory and practice; all units must be passed to achieve the qualification.

    You will receive support and feedback on your progress regularly.

    At the end of both the first and second year, students undertake a personal project, which is marked Pass, Merit or Distinction.

    The full qualification, once completed, attracts the same UCAS points as 3 A-Levels.

    Year 1

    Unit 1 The Creative Process
    Unit 2 Developing Creative Practice
    Unit 3 Responding to a set brief

    Year 2

    • Unit 4 Researching a specialist industry practice
    • Unit 5 Specialist technical skills development
    • Unit 6 Specialist creative outcome

    FUTURE PROSPECTS

    This course would suit students interested in any kind of creative arts development and a career in creative industries such as: product design, graphic design, fine art, curation, animation, tattoo design, 3D design, architecture, interior design, illustration.  This list is non-exhaustive.

    The Diploma prepares you to apply to arts-related courses and helps you build a portfolio.
