Level 2 Pearson BTEC Leading Community Activity (Sport)

This is a one year BTEC course designed for students who are within or are considering a career in the sports/play or youth industries.

It gives the opportunity to progress coaching skills in a range of sports, leading to level 1 or 2 coaching awards in various sports and Sports Leaders UK sports leadership awards as well as the BTEC qualification. The course is at Talacre Sports Centre with Camden Sports & Physical Activity Team. You will also be allocated a voluntary placement in either an educational or community setting where you will gain valuable experience in a ‘real setting’. If applicable you will also be given the opportunity to re-sit your GCSE Maths and English or complete your functional skills at William Ellis School for two sessions per week.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO START THE COURSE

  •  Interest in working with young people in sports and education
  • Record of attending GCSE/BTEC examinations

Or 

  • Examples of good behaviour at school within learning and a successful enrolment interview

You will be committed to participating in a team based course and show and interest in helping young people.  An underpinning part of this course is working as part of a team.  You will need to be aware of the commitment to being a regular, punctual and active member of the group, willing to work flexible hours as required.

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE

1.Working in the sport and active leisure industry

2.Roles and responsibilities of a community activity leader

3.Planning and promoting community activities

4.Working as a community activity leader

ASSESSMENT 

You will be assessed regularly on your performance and you will produce a portfolio of evidence which will contain:

  • observations by your assessors of your performance, records of your work
  • witness testimony by people who have seen you at work
  • records of questions, discussions and your answers
  • simulations you have taken part in.
  • Assignments that will be assessed and graded pass, merit and distinction

PROGRESSION FROM THE COURSE

A range of Level 3 courses at colleges can be accessed from this course, including the Level 3 BTEC Diploma or Extended Certificate in Sports Coaching at Talacre & LaSWAP.
