YEAR 12/13 COURSE SPECIFICATION
The Extended Project Qualification can be taken as an extension of Level 3 studies. It develops and extends from one or more of students’ study areas and/or from an area of personal interest or activity outside their main programme of study. It is based on a topic chosen by the student and agreed by the centre.
Students will:
- Choose an area of interest
- Draft a title and aims of the project
- Plan, research and carry out the project
- Deliver a presentation to a non-specialist audience
- Provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment
LEARNING AND SKILLS
- Identify, design, plan and complete an individual project
- Develop a range of organizational skills and strategies to meet planned objectives
- Obtain, critically select and use information from a range of sources
- Analyse data, apply it relevantly and demonstrate understanding of links, connections and complexities of the topic
- Select and use a range of skills, solve problems, take decisions critically, creatively and flexibly
- Evaluate outcomes both in relation to agreed objectives and own learning and performance
- Select and use a range of communication skills and media to present evidence outcomes and conclusions
EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT
5000 word dissertation OR artefact with an artefact report
Plus Production Log, Assessment Record, Project Plans, evidence of extensive research and Presentation Record
FUTURE PROSPECTS
The EPQ is highly regarded by top universities, and is an excellent way to demonstrate students already master the crucial skills for university studies; indeed, research shows that EPQ students are more successful at both A-Level and university. Russell Group Universities are dropping their entry requirements by up to one grade for EPQ students who achieve A/A*.
