A Cambridge technical diploma in art & design is a level 2 practical, skills-based course. You learn through completing projects and assignments that are often based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course will give you a greater understanding of art and design-related areas of employment. It can also be an ideal foundation for moving onto a more advanced work-related qualification. This diploma course is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A*-C and is normally taken as a full-time course.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO START THE COURSE
- 4+ in art and/or design
- Portfolio of art work
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course is made up of six unit :four mandatory core units that everyone takes and two specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in more depth. All students take the 4 core units:
- 2D and 3D Communication
- Vocational context
- Explore and Develop Ideas
- Produce an Outcome
You will also take 2 specialist units from the following list:
- Working to Graphic Design Briefs
- Working to Photography Briefs
- Working to Fashion Design Briefs
- Working to Textile Briefs
- Working to 3D Design Briefs
- Working to Multimedia Briefs
- Working to a Visual Arts Brief
- Working to 3D Design Crafts
ASSESSMENT
EXAM BOARD: OCR CAMBRIDGE TECH
All units are continuously assessed, and graded. An overall grade for the qualification is then awarded at the end of the year.
PROGRESSION
With further training or study, students may enter careers including: Advertising, Marketing, Graphic Design, Animation, Fabric/Textile Design, Freelance Photography and Interior Design. A BTEC First Diploma prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in 3D Design, Design, Design Crafts, Fashion and Clothing, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Photography or Textiles.
